Exercises by Targeting Fingers for Speedy Typing
Once you reach the intermediate level in a 2-minute typing test, the major hindrance is usually of a physical nature. Most typists notice that their index and middle fingers are quick, while the ring and little fingers are a little late. Typing finger speed exercises are not simply typing practice but are aimed at training the small muscle groups of the hand so that they can work separately.
The Biological Problem of the Ring Finger
The human body is constructed in such a way that the ring and the middle fingers have a shared flexor tendon. This makes it inherently complicated to move a ring finger independently. In the Kruti Dev layout, where the ring finger has to cover some very important vowels and matras, this tethering is a recipe for severe speed impediment. The focus of this exercise is to unlearn that biological tendency. The aim is to make each finger move separately so that grabbing the extreme top and bottom of the keyboard does not feel like a physical effort.
Physical Activities for Improving Dexterity
Performing a short, 2-minute “warm-up” before typing can help increase your typing speed. One old exercise is sliding your palms flat on a table, then moving each finger up and down one at a time, while trying not to move the rest. The nails will be resting on the table, and the fingers will be moving up and down. While stressing this exercise, be sure to keep your hands as relaxed as possible to help with the range and speed of your fingers. A more relaxed around the hand will allow you to move fingers more quickly and for more distance, which should help increase your finger speed, thus help increase your typing speed.
Working on your precision during the 2-minute time limit is essential. One way to improve your precision is to use the weaker of the two fingers on each hand to do the work. It may feel faster to do so and use your index fingers on the corresponding hand to do a lot of the typing, but this will actually slow you down because you will not be able to break that “ceiling.” You can use the time to improve the mental communication and the neural connections that fire when a finger is moved to push a key. Typing is about communication so you should not be afraid of your fingers getting tired.
